Moments 2019

Pre-events:

  1. Sudoku [06.02.19]

The Décor team of the Department of Statistics had com up with 6*6 sudoku game, contrary to the conventional 9*9 one, which saw participation from diversified departments from the whole college.

 

2.Capture and Seek, the treasure hunt [07.02.19]

The Media and the Editorial team of the Department organised a treasure hunt for the college wherein the participating teams were given a brand name and they were expected to find a product of that brand within the campus. They were also given a clue to reach the next spot.

3.Spin the wheel [13.02.19]

The décor team of the department had set up a spinning wheel outside nescafe with 5 sections, each representing a location within college campus. The participants spun the wheel and wrote their favourite moment associated with the place on the spinner.

4.Flash mob [14.02.19]

The students from the department danced to the beats of various Bollywood tracks making everyone a part of the festivities of Moments 2019.

Main Events:

 0.Interactive Session with Dr. Ravi Vijayaraghvan

The beginning of the day was marked with an interactive session with Dr. Ravi Vijayaraghvan, Vice President, Head of Analytics, Flipkart. He shared some of his vast technical knowledge and also gave an insight on solving daily business problems using various algorithms. He also threw some light on the global e-commerce industry, hidden potential of the Indian Market and the various possible career opportunities in hard science and business analytics.

  1. Workshop on ‘Data Visualisation using Python’

The Department of Statistics in collaboration with Sankhyiki organised an engaging one-day workshop on Data Visualisation using Python taken by Mr. Mukul Singh Chauhan, who covered various aspects of the interesting topic, focusing upon the fundamentals of coding.

 

​2.Workshop on ‘Quantitative Finance’

A workshop on Quantitative Finance was held in collaboration with World Quant, a quantitative asset management firm based in US. The speaker discussed about various financial tools which included hedge-funds, quants among many others. It was a one of a kind and a different workshop.

 

3.Brand Aid 2.0, the case study competition

Brand Aid 2.0 was a case study competition conducted in two rounds: an online elimination round and an offline round. The online round was a 10 min round based on small cases which consisted of 10 questions. Top performers of the online round were called on campus in the day of the Annual Academic Meet. The participants were given a situation wherein a Japanese Company was looking towards overseas expansion. 21 participating teams of 2-3 each prepared different solutions to the case. Top 7 shortlisted teams presented their cases in front of the esteemed judge, Mr. Aalekh Sharan, SHO to CEO, Niti Aayog.

 

4.Jeopardy, the quiz competition

Loosely based on highly successful TV show Jeopardy, the quiz event consisted of 2 rounds with questions from 4 streams. Each stream had 4 tabs of different amounts of virtual money. Team with the highest virtual account balance won. The wide spectrum of questions and the exciting format were appreciated by the participants, whose enthusiasm made the event a great success.

 

5.Symmetry, the photography competition

The photography competition consisted of 2 rounds: an online shortlisting round and an offline round. For the online round, participants were required to send a photograph on the theme ‘Forgotten Alleys’. Top entries were called on campus for the offline round wherein one picture each on the themes ‘Architecture’ and ‘Contrast’ were to be clicked and interpreted in a time frame of 1 hour.

 

6.Informal Games

With the ongoing main events of Moments 2019, the Department of Statistics organised a few ‘Just a Minute’ games namely, Survey Says, Talk till you Drop, Movie Quiz and Wordsworth. All the participants and the teachers had a great fun playing the games.
