Mr. Antar Bandyopadhyay, Associate Professor , Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Delhi, delivered a session on “Emergence of Gaussian Distribution” on the 22nd of March, 2018. He started the session with the discussion of some very basic statistical terms which all people from a background in statistics are familiar with. The talk revolved around the discovery of the Gaussian distribution which took 400 years to take the form that we study today and how it is one of the most important and intriguing discoveries in statistics. The talk was followed by a lively discussion on the admission procedure to ISI, the importance of the institute and certain other things about the institute.
