Moments 2018
The Annual Academic Meet of Statistics Department, Moments was held on the 9th of February, 2018 and saw a footfall of 600+ students from across Delhi and its outskirts. There were 6 events, formal and informal that were organised on the day of the meet. The description of each event is mentioned as follows.
I. Interactive Session by Mr. Ankur Garg
Mr. Garg is a graduate from the esteemed IIT Delhi and he is a pass out from one of the most sought after MBA institutes in the country, IIM Ahmedabad. He started off as a Consultant in the KPMG advisory. He joined IndiGo as the Director-Planning and Performance Analytics. He has a very varied and competent set of skills including Business Analytics, Management Consulting, Business Strategy, Stakeholder Management, Outsourcing and Corporate Strategy Formulation. He has co-authored "A Stochastic Linear Programming Model for Asset Liability Management- The Case of an Indian Insurance Company" for the Journal of Insurance and Risk Management, 2007.
II. Workshop on Data Analysis with Excel
The workshop on Data Analysis with Excel was conducted by Mr. Mukul Kr Singh Chauhan, an actuarial data science expert from Sankhyiki institute. The workshop covered key concept areas of Ms Excel functions while analysing the data patterns and interpreting the results of the analysis at a basic level. The workshop was for a duration of 5 hours and saw participation from 430 students from institutes across Delhi and its outskirts.
III. Brand Aid: The Case Study Competition
Brand Aid was a case study competition which was conducted in two rounds, the first round being a quiz based on marketing questions which was to be answered online and was an eliminating round. The second round was held on the day of the Annual Academic Meet in which participants were required to analyse real world situations and develop feasible solutions in view of these problems, 20 teams of 2 presented in round 2. The judging panel consisted of Ms. Shalini S Sharma, Senior Consultant and Head of Education and design, Confederation of Indian Industries and Mr. Ravi Vajala, faculty member of Department of Statistics, LSR
IV. Just A Minute: The Ice Breaker Games
Just A Minute was an informal event held for a duration of 45 minutes during lunch break and was a mix of 5 fun games with exciting prizes up for grabs. It received a footfall of 400+ students and teachers who really enjoyed playing the games and appreciated the initiative.
V. Symmetry: The Photography Competition
Symmetry was a photography competition with participants participating in teams of two or three which was held in two rounds, the first being an online round where the teams were required to submit a picture based on their interpretation of the topics, ‘Life in motion’ and ‘Centre’. The Second round was held on the day of the event, there were 20 teams of 2/3 which were shortlisted from round 1, their task was to submit entries on their interpretation of the topics, ‘Perspective’, ‘Zig-Zag’, ‘Silhouettes’, ‘Fearless’ and ‘Elation’. The judging panel for the competition was the Media Team Heads of Moments, 2018
VI. Housebreak: The Treasure Hunt
Housebreak was the Treasure Hunt which was based on the theme of abduction and participants were to follow a trail to reach the place where their hypothetically abducted member was kept as hostage. 10 teams of 3 participated in the treasure hunt and gave a positive feedback on the structuring and execution of the event.
8 ] Mr. Antar Bandyopadhyay, Associate Professor , Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Delhi,
delivered a session on “Emergence of Gaussian Distribution” on the 22nd of March, 2018. He started the session with the discussion of some very basic statistical terms which all people from a background in statistics are familiar with. The talk revolved around the discovery of the Gaussian distribution which took 400 years to take the form that we study today and how it is one of the most important and intriguing discoveries in statistics. The talk was followed by a lively discussion on the admission procedure to ISI, the importance of the institute and certain other things about the institute.
